Driver Under Police Guard In Albury Hospital After Two Injured In Crash

A driver remains under police guard – and two other people are being treated in hospital – following a crash in Albury overnight.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Union and Mate Street shortly after 11pm (Friday 3 October 2025), after an SUV and a van collided.

A 34-year-old woman driving the van and her front-seat passenger, a 33-year-old man, suffered suspected internal injuries and were taken to Albury Base Hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District arrested the driver of the SUV, a 22-year-old man from West Albury, at the scene and he remains under observation in the same hospital under police guard.

Police will allege the man drove through a red light immediately before the collision with the van.

Checks reveal the driver is currently disqualified and the vehicle is unregistered.

A 25-year-old woman, from North Albury, who was a front-seat passenger in the SUV was also taken to hospital to be checked as a precaution.

Police plan to arrest the SUV driver once he is released from hospital, as inquiries continue.
