Drivers caught under the influence during Operation Deter Drink Driving, SA

Police patrols conducted Operation Deter Drink Driving, a highly visible operation targeting drink driving across the metropolitan area today, according to SA Police.

Driver testing stations were set up at six locations, in the Elizabeth, Holden Hill, Eastern Adelaide, Western Adelaide, Sturt and South Coast Local Service Areas.

3079 alcotests were conducted, with three drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The highest readings were from a 67-year-old Findon man who returned a reading of 0.086, while a 72-year-old Glandore man recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.085. Both men were issued six-month immediate loss of licence notices and had their cars impounded.

A 22-year-old Hackham man who was driving with a provisional licence was also caught drink-driving, and recorded a breath test reading of 0.041.

Six drug tests were also conducted with a further three drivers caught under the influence of drugs.

While every police officer in South Australia can and does conduct random driver tests, targeted traffic operations will be conducted throughout the year in the metropolitan area to ensure the roads are kept safe for all road users and pedestrians.
