Drivers fined after reckless beach behaviour

Yorke Mid North Highway Patrol members, acting on information from the public, have fined two reckless drivers at Wallaroo.

Police will allege around 6pm on Monday 4 January, a Nissan and a Holden utility, were photographed driving through the water at North Beach. The Nissan had eight unrestrained children in the cargo area while the Holden was driving near people walking along the beach.

Police caught up with both drivers late this morning at Port Hughes. A 29-year-old Para Hills man was issued with a $1313 on the spot fine for two or more children under 16 years not wearing a seatbelt, ride in part of vehicle not for people and drive vehicle without proper control. He also received five demerit points. The other driver, a 29-year-old man from Victoria was issued with a $287 on the spot fine for drive vehicle without proper control.

Police remind motorists the same rules that apply on a road also apply on a beach. It is also not safe to drive anywhere with anyone, especially young children, in the back of a utility. Drivers need to make better choices - if one the children had fallen from the back of the utility, the consequences could have been tragic.
