Drivers warned of major road closures - Far Northern NSW

Police are warning travellers headed towards Northern New South Wales of significant road closures due to bushfire activity.

The Pacific Highway remains closed between Woodburn and Woombah due to the Myall Creek Road bushfire in the Richmond Valley.

The Summerland Way also remains closed between Casino and Grafton.

Please delay all non-essential travel in the area.

If you need to travel between Grafton and Ballina, motorists are being asked to use the Gwydir Highway, the New England Highway and the Bruxner Highway instead. This alternative will add around 3.5-hours extra to your trip, and is not suitable for B-doubles.

With thousands of school leavers due to make their way to schoolies celebrations in Byron Bay and Southern QLD, police are urging drivers to plan their trip, take note of all current road closures and drive to the conditions.

These main roads could be closed for some time, and other routes could also be closed at short notice due to bushfire conditions.

Several other roads are closed across the state due to bushfire activity. Please stay up-to-date via www.livetraffic.com
