Drowning, Fraser Island

Two 16-year-old boys have died following a drowning on Fraser Island overnight.

The boys, both Japanese nationals, were reported missing from a tour group near Lake Mackenzie just after 5pm yesterday afternoon.

A search and rescue operation commenced involving local officers, with water police and helicopters assisting in the search.

The bodies of two boys were located in water at around 8:20am this morning.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
