Drug Driver Arrested At Ward Belt

A driver was arrested after crashing into a ditch on the Northern Expressway at Ward Belt last night.

Police received several reports from drivers on the Northern Expressway around 5.30pm on Sunday 18 January of a vehicle driving erratically and causing other drivers to take evasive action to avoid collisions.

The Toyota Camry sideswiped at least one vehicle and did not stop at the scene.

Police located the car in a spoon drain a short time later. The driver, a 33-year-old Parafield Gardens man, was not injured but allegedly appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possess a controlled drug and driving in a manner dangerous to the public.

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 2 March.

His vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 28 days.
