Drug trafficking charges at Mount Isa, QLD

A man has been charged with numerous dangerous drug offences after being arrested by police when he departed a commercial aircraft at Mount Isa Airport this morning, Queensland Police say.

The 39-year-old Cloncurry man was intercepted by police around 8.50am after flying in from Brisbane.

A subsequent search of the man resulted in police allegedly locating 400 grams of ICE amphetamine and a small quantity of cannabis in a carry bag that had been transported as checked baggage.

The man was charged with 12 offences including six counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts each of supplying dangerous drugs, possession anything used in the commission of crime and one count of trafficking dangerous drugs and producing dangerous drugs.

He is due to appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

Detective Sergeant Warren Ford from the Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch said the arrest was a significant step towards reducing the number of illicit drugs being brought to the region.

"Police are very happy with this result and ask the public to continue their support of providing information about drug and criminal activity."
