Drugs and Alcohol Seized - Adelaide River

Northern Territory Police have made multiple arrests and seized drugs and alcohol following a two day operation on Stuart Highway, Adelaide River.

From 30 November to 1 December, members from the Drug and Organised Crime Section, Central Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk, Dog Operations Unit, Alcohol Policing Unit and Adelaide River General Duties carried out the operation, Northern Territory Police say.

During the operation, Drug Detector Dogs Yeti, Astra and Hugo assisted police seizing 520 grams of cannabis and two grams of MDMA bound for remote communities. Police also located and destroyed 92 litres of alcohol destined for dry communities, with nearly 30 litres seized from a single vehicle.

A 36-year-old man was arrested for:

  • Supply Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug – less than commercial quantity – Indigenous Community
  • Possess Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug – Traffickable Quantity – Public Place
  • Drive with Prohibited Drug in Blood

He has been granted bail to appear at the Wadeye Local Court on 12/12/2018.

A 33-year-old woman returned a positive alcohol reading of .258 and was arrested for:

  • Drive High Range Blood Alcohol Content
  • Drive with Suspended Entitlement

She has been bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 03/01/2019.

A 22-year-old man was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Police also issued five notices to appear (NTA) in court.

A 27-year-old man was issued a NTA for:

  • Supply Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug – less than commercial quantity – Indigenous Community
  • Possess Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug – Traffickable Quantity – Public Place

He is due to appear in Wadeye Local Court on 15/01/2019.

A 32-year-old man was issued a NTA for:

  • Possess Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug – Traffickable Quantity – Public Place
  • Possess Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug – Traffickable Quantity – Public Place.

He is due to appear in Nhulunbuy Local Court on 12/02/2019.

A 24-year-old man was issued with a NTA for Drive Low Range Blood Alcohol Content after returning a reading of 0.068. He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 08/01/2019.

An 18-year-old man was issued with a NTA for:

  • Drive Unlicensed
  • Drive Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Drive Uninsured Motor Vehicle

He is due to appear in Wadeye Local Court on 15/01/2019.

A 24-year-old man was issued with a NTA for drive unlicensed. He is due to appear in Wadeye Local Court on 15/01/2019.

Three unsafe vehicles were defected.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Sanderson said police also issued 10 drug infringement notices, 20 traffic infringement notices and one summary infringement notice.

"Police will continue to target those that attempt to take illicit substances out to remote communities and those road users who place others at risk," she said.

"I’d urge anyone with information about suspicious or illegal activity to report it to police so that we can keep our communities safe.

"Members of the public can make a report by talking to officers at their local police station, ringing 131 444 or calling Crime Stoppers anonymously.
