Drugs and ammunition located in vehicle

Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after an intercept in Essendon uncovered drugs and weapons.

Police observed a vehicle being driven erratically and at high speeds in the Calder Freeway, Essendon Fields on 17 January.

The Honda Civic was dumped a short time later and the driver fled the scene on foot.

Police searched the vehicle and it's alleged they located a quantity of methylamphetamine worth approximately $54,000, a loaded firearm and ammunition.

Detectives subsequently located and arrested the driver in Melbourne's CBD on 23 January.

The 33-year-old Coburg man has been charged with multiple offences including trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, contravening a firearm prohibition order by possessing a firearm, and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

He has been remanded to appear in County Court on 16 April.
