A man has been charged with drug and traffic-related offences following a vehicle stop in the state's Northern Tablelands.
About 9.30am on Friday (19 March 2021), officers attached to New England Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting proactive patrols on the New England Highway, approximately 8km north of Glen Innes, when they stopped a Ford Territory travelling south.
The driver, a 40-year-old man, was subjected to a random drug test, which returned a positive result.
Further checks revealed the man's license was suspended.
Following a search of the vehicle, officers seized magic mushrooms, cannabis, cocaine, methylamphetamine, and other drug paraphernalia.
The passenger – a 17-year-old girl – was also allegedly found in possession of methylamphetamine.
The man and girl were arrested and taken to Glen Innes Police Station, where he underwent a secondary oral fluid test, which allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine and methylamphetamine.
The man was charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), four counts of supply prohibited drug, drive while licence suspended and breach of bail.
He was bail refused at Tamworth Local Court on Saturday (20 March 2021) to appear before Armidale Local Court today (Monday 22 March 2021).
The teenage girl was issued a Youth Caution under the Young Offenders Act for drug possession.
