We're delighted that Durham University Gospel Choir is shortlisted as a finalist in the 11th Annual UGCY - University Gospel Choir of the Year competition which will take place on Saturday 25 March 2023 at Oasis House, Croydon.

The current choir is continuing to build on the impressive legacy of DU Gospel Choir, who won the Virtual UGCY Choir Award in 2020 and came 2nd place in 2019, and has a real chance of securing this coveted title once again.

Since its beginnings in 2011, the choir numbers have grown from 8 to 25, with members coming from all over the world and varied cultural backgrounds, reflecting its ambition for diversity.

Durham will be competing against seven other university gospel choirs who have secured a place in the hotly contested UGCY finals, organised in partnership with AStepFWD, a multi-media platform organisation that curates the monthly UK Christian Charts.

Founded in 2011 by Lorraine Wright MBE, University Gospel Choir of the Year continues to provide a prestigious platform where choirs can develop and showcase their musical ability in a supportive community environment. This year for the first time, the rules will llow choirs to feature a special guest artist to perform as part of their final set.

The University Gospel Choir of the Year will be held at Oasis House, Croydon CR0 3EX on Saturday 25th March 2023 with doors open from 6pm.
