E-bike Rider Charged After Fatal Collision In Hastings

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal collision in Hastings last month.

Emergency services were called to reports a pedestrian had been struck by an allegedly modified electric bike on Frankston-Flinders Road about 6.40pm on 12 May.

The pedestrian, a 69-year-old Hastings man, was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

The bike rider, a 24-year-old Hastings man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He was interviewed this morning and has been charged with:

• dangerous driving causing death

• exceeding the prescribed concentration of drug

• unlicensed driving

• use unregistered motor vehicle

• use unsafe/unroadworthy motor vehicle

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court this afternoon.
