E-Waste Units Debut at Baw Baw Shire Service Centers

Recycling e-waste will now be easier for community members visiting Baw Baw Shire Council's customer services centres in Warragul and Drouin.

A successful application has seen the Victorian Government provide Baw Baw Shire Council with funding for two e-waste units at Council's customer service centres at 33 Young St, Drouin and West Gippsland Arts Centre, Warragul. These units have been delivered under VicGov's circular economy plan, Recycling Victoria: a new economy.

This project aims to reduce environmental and safety risks from loose batteries and embedded batteries. The two banks of four e-waste collection units provide safe, secure and accessible drop-off points.

Visitors to the customer service centres will be able to safely dispose of:

  • Loose batteries
  • Mobile phones
  • Cords and chargers
  • Small electrical items such as game controllers, electric toothbrushes and razors, digital cameras, small electronic toys, and hair curlers and straighteners

Please note that light bulbs cannot be disposed of in these units - they can however be dropped off at a transfer station free of charge.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson is enthusiastic about the new disposal units.

"Illegal dumping of waste and improper disposal of batteries can lead to environmental harm and fires, and costs Council tens of thousands of dollars each year in damage and removal. These units provide another convenient stream for residents to dispose of items that cannot go into regular waste or recycling. This is good news for our community."
