Early Closure: Buronga Landfill, Arumpo Road Works

Wentworth Shire

Wentworth Shire Council wishes to advise residents and commercial operators of the early closure of the Buronga Landfill and the commencement of upgrade works on Arumpo Road this week.

To accommodate these roadworks, the Buronga Landfill will close early at 3:00 PM on Thursday, 23 April and Friday, 24 April 2026.

  • This closure applies to all residential self-haul and commercial vehicles.
  • All vehicles must exit the facility by 3:00 PM on both days.
  • Council staff will remain on-site to continue compaction and covering operations.

Council's Roads team is undertaking an upgrade of Arumpo Road, from the Silver City Highway intersection to the asphalt section in front of the Landfill. These works are scheduled for completion before the end of the financial year.

The first stage of this upgrade involves the felling of large pine trees situated close to the existing road edge.

To ensure the highest safety standards for road users and our staff, these complex tree-felling operations must be completed during daylight hours. By closing the landfill early at 3:00 PM, Council can significantly reduce heavy vehicle and general traffic travelling through the active work zone.

Motorists travelling near the Silver City Highway and Arumpo Road intersection are urged to drive to the conditions, allow extra travel time, and strictly follow all traffic control signage and directions from staff.

Council apologises for any inconvenience this short notice may cause and appreciates the community's patience and cooperation as we deliver these essential infrastructure improvements.
