City of Greater Chief Executive Ali Wastie:
At around 11:15am, Life Saving Victoria lifeguards were alerted by a community member about an unresponsive person on Eastern Beach.The lifeguards responded quickly and immediately notified emergency services.
City officers are now reviewing the CCTV footage, and we are assisting Victoria Police with their investigations.
I want to praise the first responders for their prompt efforts in this tragic situation, and also recognise the community member who alerted the lifeguards.
