Echuca Fire Brigade was called out to a single storey brick house fire just before 9pm last night.

Firefighters took under 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Ambulance Victoria attended the scene to treat the elderly woman, before transporting her to hospital. The woman was released from hospital around midnight.

There are no suspicious circumstances regarding the fire which cause significant damage to the house. An investigation is underway into its cause.

Rostered Duty Officer Luke Waterson said the incident was a reminder to all Victorians to regularly service and maintain their electrical appliances, including heaters, and ensure working smoke detectors are installed.
