Ballina Shire Council is developing our shire's blueprint for a diverse and vibrant economy with the Draft Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategy 2026 – 2031.
This practical framework provides a clear direction for how Council will work with industry, government and the business community to support business prosperity, create local jobs and strengthen our reputation as a destination to live, work, invest and visit.
To get there, the strategy presents a suite of 31 actions across three pillars - Business and Industry, Tourism and Experiences and People and Place.
This strategy has been developed through collaboration with our business community and regional stakeholders.
Ballina Shire Council Mayor Sharon Cadwallader explained that while regulation provides the framework, facilitation creates the opportunity.
"We aspire to be a council that says 'how can we help?' rather than simply 'here are the rules'," said Mayor Cadwallader.
"By partnering with business, streamlining processes where possible, and championing investment, Council can foster an environment where enterprise flourishes, employment grows and the prosperity of the Ballina Shire is shared by all.
"Council invites the community – including business owners from all industries - to view the Draft Strategy and let us know if we've got the priorities right."

Submissions close Friday 2 October 2026.
Following public exhibition, Council staff will review feedback and prepare the final strategy to be presented at a future Council meeting.
Once finalised, the strategy will be delivered through shared responsibility across Council, business, community and government partners. Strategy implementation will be monitored through Council's quarterly and annual reporting processes, with actions reviewed and refined through future Delivery Program and Operational Plan cycles.
