Edithvale attempted armed robbery

Kingston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an attempted armed robbery and theft of motor vehicle earlier this week, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told two victims were seated in their stationary vehicle on Station Street, Edithvale, about 9.30pm on Tuesday 4 October.

A man approached the driver’s side window and asked for the time.

As the victims replied, the man demanded the driver hand over the keys and threatened them, stating he had a gun.

The man has then assaulted the victim and dragged him from the vehicle, not realising that the victim had thrown the keys away from the car.

The offender then entered the vehicle before realising the keys weren’t in the ignition and subsequently fleeing south on Station Street on foot.

One victim received lacerations to his face as a result of the assault while the other was unharmed.

Police have released a computer generated face image of a man that they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
