Eight New Houses For Ngukurr And More On Way

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is delivering real results for the bush, with eight new homes now complete in Ngukurr and more on the way.

NJ Homes completed construction promptly with each home taking just 18 weeks to complete.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development Steve Edgington said the new builds were making a difference, providing safe, modern spaces for families as they move in.

"As part of the CLP Government's year of action, certainty and security, we're proud to be delivering more homes for families in Ngukurr.

"Getting a house built in the bush in only 18 weeks is no small feat, and the team should be proud of what they've delivered."

"It's also pleasing to see the construction of remote housing creating more jobs for locals, with NJ Homes achieving an average Indigenous workforce participation rate of 25%, peaking at 44% during the most recent phase.

"Stable housing is the foundation for tackling the root causes of crime and lifting outcomes in health, education and employment," Mr Edgington said.

NJ Homes has also been awarded the next two packages, which will deliver an additional 8 homes, including two 3-bedroom duplexes, with construction expected to be underway shortly.

"The Finocchiaro CLP Government is delivering for the bush - new houses going up at pace, and more rolling out straight behind them," Mr Edgington said.

A further 9 homes are scheduled to be constructed on the remaining vacant lots in the new subdivision, with works expected to commence on those homes in the next financial year.

Construction was funded by the joint $4 billion remote housing partnership agreement between the Australian and Northern Territory governments, which aims to halve overcrowding over its 10-year life.

Both governments work alongside the Joint Steering Committee for Remote Housing NT to deliver better housing and improved outcomes for Aboriginal Territorians living in remote communities.
