Police are appealing to the community for information after a man was critically injured in a fail-to-stop crash on Sydney’s Northern Beaches earlier this month, NSW Police say.
Emergency services were called to a retirement village on Cabbage Tree Road at Bayview shortly after 4am on Wednesday 8 June 2016, after an 85-year-old man was found injured in a driveway.
The man was treated at the scene and taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital; medical staff advised police the man’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.
He remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Police have been following several lines of inquiry and have spoken to several residents at the home but as yet have been unable to identify any witnesses to the incident.
Northern Beaches Crime Manager, Detective Acting Inspector Justin Hadley, said someone knows what happened.
"Due to the injuries sustained by this man we have been unable to gain any information about the circumstances leading up to the crash," A/Insp Hadley said.
"We know this gentleman was a regular early-riser and would wander the confines of the village.
"He appears to have been struck near the driveway entry marked as ‘J’, which is closest to Annam Road.
"Despite a crime scene being established there we have been unable to locate any physical evidence to assist our inquiry.
"Investigators have spoken to garbage collectors and newspaper delivery people who are regularly in the area but so we have been unable to locate any witnesses.
"I urge anyone with information about the crash to come forward immediately and callers can remain anonymous," Det A/Insp Hadley said.
