Elderly Man Dies, Murder Charge in Yennora Assault

A man has been charged after the death of an elderly man following an alleged assault in Sydney's southwest over the weekend.

About 4.40am on Saturday (11 July 2026), emergency services were called to Orchardleigh Street, Yennora, following reports a man was found unconscious.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated a 74-year-old man at the scene, before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the man was allegedly assaulted while on his regular morning walk; however, investigators were unable to speak with the man.

Following the incident, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced Strike Force Furena to investigate the incident.

As investigations continued, about 2pm on Sunday 12 July 2026, detectives, with the assistance of the Public Order Riot Squad, executed a search warrant at an address in Carlingford, seizing several items believed to be linked to the incident.

Yesterday (Monday 13 July 2026), police were informed that the 74-year-old man had died in hospital.

The 74-year-old has been identified as a local resident, who is married with six children.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Following extensive inquiries, about 8.30pm yesterday, a 45-year-old man was arrested for an outstanding warrant at a Carlingford address and taken to Parramatta Police Station where he charged with murder and cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder.

He was also charged with common assault for an unrelated incident in Guildford earlier this month.

The 45-year-old was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 14 July 2026).
