Emergency funding for Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service

Elise Archer,Attorney-General

The ongoing crisis in Afghanistan has shocked the world and, as a Government, we are taking action to support our Afghan and Hazara communities, their friends and family, and the vital service organisations that support them.

That's why, as part of our $85,000 commitment announced today, I am pleased as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice to provide $50,000 in emergency funding to the Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service to assist our Afghan community through this difficult time.

This funding to the Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service will enable them to provide urgent advice, and lodge family reunion visa applications for Afghan Tasmanian residents who have family members in Afghanistan or in refugee camps in neighbouring countries.

We will continue to support our local Afghan community as the international situation unfolds.
