Emergency works will take place on a section of beach at Manning Point from Tuesday 17 June.
Significant erosion during the recent floods means a breakthrough between the river and the ocean at the Manning Point sand spit is imminent.
To reduce the risk of a section of beach from being eroded away, crews will be moving sand by trucks from a nearby area that will provide a buffer and reduce the likelihood of an opening.
The significant flood event in May, damaged a section of the southern training wall, resulting in erosion of the sand spit from the river in addition to existing ocean risks. If a breakthrough occurs it poses several risks to Manning Point and Harrington due to ocean swells and further unrestrained erosion of the sand spit.
MidCoast Council will undertake the work through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements administered through the NSW Government. This is to ensure that the work happens as soon as possible.
That section of beach will be closed to the public for the duration of the work which is expected to take up to six weeks.
