Council and contractors are undertaking urgent works on several Norfolk Island Pine Trees around Horseshoe Bay reserve in South West Rocks. There may be other days and areas of works planned as well dependent on contractor availability. We will ensure everyone is informed as soon as this is confirmed.
Large seed clusters have developed in the trees. This year the trees have experienced, optimal growing conditions, causing unusual and rapid seed growth. We had to undertake similar works in 2024.
What's Happening?
After recent visual inspections, Council determined immediate action is necessary to mitigate the potential hazard the seed clusters pose.
Emergency tree works will take place weather permitting:
- Dates: Saturday 13 December, Monday 15 December, and Thursday 18 December
- Time: From 7am each day works need to occur
Due to the nature and height at which these works must take place, strong winds may impact the contractors use of particular equipment. Work will take place for as long as weather permits. We appreciate your understanding of any last minute changes to the schedule because of these factors.
Impact on the Community
To ensure public safety and smooth operations:
- Exclusion Zones will be established around work areas. Please avoid these zones and follow contractor instructions.
- The Horseshoe Bay Reserve playground may experience temporary closures during the works. Traffic and pedestrian management systems will be in place to minimize disruption.
- Public bus services will operate as usual.
We Appreciate Your Patience
While these works are essential for public safety, we understand they may cause inconvenience, and we thank the community for their understanding. Council will strive to minimize disruption, especially for businesses in the area.
