Empowering young women

Young women interested in developing and strengthening their leaderships skills are invited to join Council's Young Women's Leadership Program.

The eight-week program starts on March 15 for women aged 15-20 will break down gender and cultural barriers.

Topics will include respectful relationships, gender differences, sexual health, wellbeing and women's representations in the media and community.

The program will give young women the opportunity to meet female leaders in the community and access leadership mentoring.

Leanne Sebastian participated last year and found the program enlightening.

"I went in with an open mind, (and) I was open to all opinions," Leanne said.

"My goal for the program was to be more enlightened and more educated, so I'm more prepared to have an opinion of my own and fight for my own opinion when the time comes."

Leanne said a highlight of the program was making lifelong friends.

"Because we live in a world with so many different opinions I didn't think there would be so many people that shared my same beliefs and thoughts for so many amazing causes like this one," she said.
