Research Project Opportunities
We are part of a collaborative research community where information is regularly shared between networks. The below opportunity may be of interest and plays a part in the future of cancer prevention and treatment in Australia.
Engage AYA Co-design Study
More young people than ever are surviving cancer, but many continue to face physical, emotional and practical challenges long after treatment ends. These can include ongoing health concerns, fatigue, fertility issues, mental health difficulties, and challenges returning to study, work and everyday life. Yet age-appropriate follow-up care is often difficult to access, leaving many young survivors feeling uncertain about how to manage their long-term health.
This project aims to change that. Cancer Council NSW is part of a research team, led by The University of New South Wales and Cancer Council NSW, who are partnering with adolescent and young adults who have experienced cancer, alongside health professionals, to co-design a new survivorship care program tailored specifically for young people diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 39. By listening to survivors' lived experiences and understanding the challenges they face, we will work together to shape a program that is practical, accessible and responsive to their needs.
The program builds on our evidence based Engage survivorship model, which has already been shown to be effective, safe, acceptable, and helpful for childhood cancer survivors and their families. By adapting and extending this model for adolescent and young adults, we hope to create a more coordinated approach to care that supports both medical and emotional wellbeing for this older age group too.
