Entries are now open for the all-new Environmental Art & Design Prize Northern Beaches 2021. Artists and designers across Australia are invited to apply.
The Prize encourages entries from artists and designers who have a keen interest and focus on the environment, sustainable living and climate change in their work.
The Prize recognises that art and design has been a powerful medium through which artists and designers, throughout time, have shone a spotlight on the need for change particularly on social issues.
Given the unprecedented nature and complexity of the environmental challenges we face today, the Prize provides artists and designers an opportunity to draw attention to some of these issues, but also acknowledge the wonder, beauty and significance of the natural world.
Mayor Michael Regan encouraged artists and designers to enter the new competition.
“This is a great opportunity to achieve recognition for imagination and creativity in this space.
“The Prize is unique and reflects the special character of our area and our community’s passion for the natural environment.
“The history of art on the Northern Beaches has shown that the natural environment has been inspiring the creative community since the late 1800s.
“As it is the Prize’s inaugural year, the competition will be particularly exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing entries across the many categories.”
The new Environmental Art & Design Prize will take place over two weeks in August alongside a new open studios event held across the Northern Beaches.
The prize pool will be over $40,000 across the nine categories encompassing a range of contemporary practices, from fashion to ceramics and painting.
The exhibition will be spread across three locations to also increase its reach for audiences – Manly Art Gallery & Museum, Creative Space North Curl Curl and the Mona Vale Creative Pop Up Gallery.
