EPA lays charges over Pakenham tyre stockpile

EPA Victoria has served 14 charges on a company and its Director over the storage of large numbers of waste tyres at a site at Pakenham.

EPA laid the charges after its Environmental Crime Branch found more than 70,000 tyres on the unlicensed site at Pakenham.

The site has now been cleared and the majority of the waste tyres have been moved to two sites at Pakenham and Cranbourne East, where the company has obtained the correct permits.

EPA officers have inspected the new sites to confirm the storage arrangements comply with permit conditions designed to minimise the risk of fire and other environmental hazards.

The charges are listed to appear in the Dandenong Magistrates Court in June.
