Erratic driver arrested in Reservoir

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was arrested following a series of alleged incidents in Melbourne's north yesterday morning.

Officers were called the intersection of Burgundy Street and Stradbroke Avenue, Heidelberg following reports of a man asleep in a car about 8.15am on 8 February.

Police located the sleeping man in an outstanding stolen Holden sedan and attempted to make an arrest.

The man woke up and allegedly drove off at a fast rate of speed.

A short time later the car was spotted by a separate police unit allegedly doing burnouts at the intersection of Albert and Bell streets in Preston before heading north.

The silver Holden was located parked on Strathmerton Street, Reservoir where the driver got out of the car and allegedly assaulted a member of the public.

He attempted to flee on foot and was arrested by police a short distance from the scene.

The 29-year-old Reservoir man has since been charged with:

• aggravated reckless exposure of police officer to risk by driving

• reckless exposure of police officer to risk by driving

• theft of motor vehicle

• theft

• drive under the influence - drugs

• reckless conduct endangering life

• reckless conduct endangering serious injury

• fail to stop on police request

• drive whilst disqualified

• drive vehicle causing loss of traction

• fail to have proper control - improper use of vehicle

• resist police officer

• Possess methylamphetamine
