Europe Vows to Stick With Ukraine Amid Trump-Putin Meet

European leaders have pledged continued military and financial support for Ukraine and urged greater pressure on Russia ahead of a planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.

In a joint statement, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom and the European Commission said any peace deal must protect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that “the path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine.”

Trump has said the talks are close to producing a deal that could involve “some swapping of territories,” a prospect rejected by Kyiv and its European allies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the European statement, calling for a “fair” end to the war that safeguards both Ukraine’s and Europe’s security interests.
