Event Attraction Fund opens

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has opened a $4 million Events Attraction Fund to ramp up our chase for major events which help to grow Tasmania’s brand and our visitor economy.

Tasmania has a great reputation for successfully hosting major events and festivals right across the year, and they play a major part in bringing visitors here, and enhancing the Tasmanian way of life.

Events Tasmania will utilise the $4 million fund to actively target events that provide a strong economic return and cultural benefit for our state.

Events seeking funding will be assessed across four key criteria: ability to attract people to Tasmania, ability to move people around Tasmania, ability to get people talking about Tasmania; ability to deliver a high quality and effective event.

The fund will help to ensure Tasmania is able host a broad range of events year-round, that are spread throughout the state to ensure every region benefits from this investment.

We have recently supported events like the 2015 AFL Masters, 2016 Ulysses AGM, the 2017 National Band Championships, the masters and junior’s national Hockey Australia competitions and the Special Olympics Games to be held in 2020 and 2022.

The Tasmanian Government is a massive supporter of our visitor economy, and a key part of our plan is to secure popular events to help achieve our ambitious target of 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania by 2020.

Organisers of significant national events are encouraged to explore this new fund and discuss their event with Events Tasmania.
