An inspiring new art exhibition celebrating the voices, experiences and creativity of older women is now on display at the Melton Civic Centre.
The Noisy Older Women (NOW) exhibition features artworks created by 10 local women who participated in a series of workshops exploring what it means to be heard, or silenced, as an older woman.
The project aims to raise awareness of gendered ageism while providing participants with opportunities to express themselves creatively, build friendships and strengthen their confidence to advocate for issues affecting older women.
Research shows older women are more likely to experience poverty, workplace discrimination and elder abuse, while also making up the majority of unpaid carers and the fastest-growing group experiencing homelessness.
Residents are encouraged to visit the exhibition and experience the stories woven into each piece.
The exhibition will be on display in the Civic Centre exhibition space until mid-December 2026, after which it will move to the Melton Library and Learning Hub where it will be exhibited until the end of April 2027.
