Experienced Corrections Operator to take up role as Commissioner of Correctional Services

TheTerritory Government has today announced that Mr Scott McNairn is thesuccessful applicant and will take up the role of Commissioner of CorrectionalServices.

MrMcNairn will commence as Commissioner of Correctional Services on 1 October2018.

As stated by Attorney General Natasha Fyles:

Mr McNairn has had a decorated career in both the army and correctional services and brings a wealth of experience to the role.

With 32 years of experience in both public and private corrections, Mr McNairn will be an asset in his role as Commissioner of Correctional Services.

He has also managed two high security prisons in Brisbane before being promoted to Deputy Director of Operation and later Director of Prisons for Serco Asia Pacific.

Among his accomplishments, Mr McNairn has received a number of awards and commendations, including:

· The Northern Ireland Operational Service Medial for operational duties in a conflict zone,

· The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for operational service in the prince Service, and;

· The Meritorious Conduct Award for bravery in the Scottish Prison service

I extend my thanks and appreciation to Mr Rob Steer who has done an exceptional job after taking up the role of Acting Commissioner upon the retirement of the previous Commissioner of Correctional Services in May this year.
