Explosive located - Berry Springs

Northern Territory Police were called to a property in Berry Springs yesterday after a resident located an unexploded ordinance.

Yesterday afternoon, police received a call from a man who had uncovered the device in the Manton Dam area and brought it home with him.

Police immediately attended his property and identified the item as a 25 pound high explosive artillery round used in WWII.

The item was deemed unsafe to travel long distances. A nearby block of land was cordoned off and the device was safely detonated.

Superintendent Shaun Gill said if the public ever come across or have any suspicions about military ordnance, it's important not to move them and call the police immediately.

"Instead of moving the device, mark the exact location and contact authorities who will attend and safely remove the item."
