Export growth remains strong

Will Hodgman,Premier & Minister for Trade

Tasmania continues to record impressive export growth, as shown in today's ABS data.

In the year to January, Tasmania exported $3.74 billion in goods, which is up 11.3 per cent compared to the previous year.

China, including Hong Kong, remains the number one destination for Tasmanian exporters, consuming more than $1.2 billion in our goods over the year to January 2019, with Japan second at $350 million, and Malaysia third with $345 million.

These figures demonstrate the success of our international engagement with Tasmania's key trading partners, including Japan.

The current Trade and Investment Mission to Japan is focused on promoting our high value, world-class produce and our primary industries, particularly forestry, in this important market.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to empowering businesses to take their products to the world. We will create further opportunities for our state, and build industry capability so that the Tasmanian economy continues to grow and create local jobs.
