In 2025, Transurban made its sixth investment into the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission's Commuter Choice Program, which distributes 395 Express Lanes revenue to regional commuter options, such as bus lines and rail improvements.
Now totaling nearly USD100 million, these investments help more people take advantage of the Express Lanes - providing more travel choices that help reduce congestion, improve safety and promote economic growth in the Northern Virginia region.
Since 2019 our annual investments have:
- Enabled 100 million fewer vehicle miles travelled
- Reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 77% relative to single-occupancy vehicle trips
- Saved 942,000 hours of travel time
- Supported seven million Commuter Choice trips on the 95/395 corridor
- Produced USD32.7 million in regional economic benefits from reduced travel delay
- Saved commuters USD13 million in fuel costs.
As part of our agreement with the Virginia Department of Transportation, these investments are expected to total over USD2.6 billion in travel choices for the Washington, D.C. area - because we are committed to getting people where they need to go faster and more reliably.
