Expression Of Interest Open For Melbourne Markets Site

  • Minister for Ports and Freight

The Andrews Labor Government has today opened an expression of interest process to lease the former Melbourne Markets site on Footscray Road in West Melbourne.

The former Melbourne Markets site is owned by VicTrack, and much of it is currently occupied by the West Gate Tunnel and other major transport projects.

Approximately 55,000 square metres of land is currently available for lease, and other land on the site will become available over the next three to 11 years as major projects are completed.

Applicants will be evaluated by VicTrack and Freight Victoria which will inform the next stage of leasing the site.

Anyone wishing to respond to the expression of interest should email [email protected]. The expression of interest closes at 3pm on Friday 28 February 2020.

As stated by Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne

"The Melbourne Markets precinct has enormous potential, given its prime location three kilometres from the CBD and immediately north of the Port of Melbourne."

"This is an important first step in seeing what interest is out there in the market for the site, which will help us decide its best use for the coming decades."
