Community organisations in the City of Swan could receive up to $5,000 for critical work in the response and recovery to COVID-19 under a new grant scheme launched this week.
The COVID-19 Community Response and Relief Grants are available for essential solutions that support local resilience and community wellbeing during, through and beyond COVID-19 restrictions.
Organisations can put forward projects between $500 and $5,000, with a total amount of $50,000 available under the package.
City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said there are many local community groups and support agencies working hard to help us all through COVID-19.
"Our community organisations are on the ground delivering critical work, and this grant package is about making sure they can keep supporting our communities through the many challenges they may face in the coming months," he said.
"It will be long road to recovery from this pandemic, and the City will continue to work closely with community organisations and key government agencies to recognise, understand and action the support needed."
The latest economic data commissioned by the City of Swan provides key insights into the impact of COVID-19, including local jobs forecast to fall by 9% by end of June, equating to a fall of 6,414 local jobs.
Gross Regional Product (GRP) is also forecast to fall by -16.4% in the same period, higher than the state average.
"We know economic factors and financial stress can impact community wellbeing - we're already seeing increased rates of homelessness, drug-related issues and domestic violence," Mayor Bailey said.
