Extra time for national program to back local government

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

The Australian Government is supporting councils to get things done in their communities, extending project construction timelines for Phases 1-3 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program.

Councils across Australia will now have until 30 June 2024 to complete works, giving them an extra year on the LRCI construction timeframes for all three phases.

The extension recognises the severe impacts on the infrastructure, building and construction sectors resulting from trade and material shortages, and increased supply chain demand and delays since the introduction of the program.

The LRCI program supports all Australian councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects in their region, creating jobs and long-lasting benefits for communities.

Phases 1-3 of the program involves $2.5 billion of Australia Government funding, with the funding supporting over 9,400 projects nationwide.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts will contact all councils to advise what the next steps are to access the extended construction timeframe.
