Swan Hill Rural City Council is reopening its Business Facade Improvement Program, providing local businesses with another opportunity to enhance their shopfronts and strengthen the appeal of the region's commercial precincts.

Applications open on Wednesday 1 July at 9am, with eligible businesses able to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to support visible facade improvements.

The program provides a dollar-for-dollar contribution, with Council matching eligible works up to a maximum of $5,000. Funding can support improvements such as repainting, new signage, exterior lighting, facade repairs, digital displays, awning upgrades, removal of outdated elements and minor reinstatement works. Limited interior upgrades may also be considered where they are visible from the street.

The previous round of the program delivered a range of successful projects across the municipality, with local businesses transforming their shopfronts through upgrades that improved street appeal and contributed to vibrant town centres.

Mayor Cr Stuart King said the program was a practical way for Council to support local businesses while investing in the presentation of key retail areas.

"Great shopfronts help create welcoming town centres, encourage visitors to explore our communities and contribute to a positive experience for locals and businesses," Cr King said.

"The Business Facade Improvement Program provides businesses with the support to make improvements that can have a lasting impact on the look and feel of our commercial areas."

Acting Director Development and Planning, Dennis Hovenden, said the program also supported local trades and suppliers through the delivery of improvement works.

"This program is about supporting businesses to bring their ideas to life, while also creating opportunities for local contractors and suppliers," Mr Hovenden said.

"We encourage businesses to speak with Council's Economic and Community Development Department before applying. A quick conversation can help confirm eligibility, discuss your proposal and ensure you are ready to submit a strong application."

Applications for the Business Facade Improvement Program open via www.smartygrants.com.au from Wednesday 1 July at 9am.
