Celebrate being a senior and get tips on how to embrace and enjoy your twilight years at the Positive Ageing Fair at Cannon Park Racetrack from 10am on Friday 23 August.
Stallholders are also being invited to register their interest to be part of this year’s Fair as tickets are released today for one of Cairns’ most popular events for seniors.
Unconventional and creative ideas for stalls are encouraged to get people looking at ageing from all perspectives.
Now in its 10th year, this free event is open to anyone over 55 years, those looking to “grow old disgracefully” and have some fun at the fair.
This year, 500 seniors have the chance to enjoy the Fillies and Fellas Lunch, while a further 160 seats are available for Tea Time Treats – a musical theatre show served with a high tea.
Alternatively, there will also be Lego’s Masters workshops for the young at heart, Junk Jewellery art classes using single-use plastics, and a novelty hobby-horse race with local councillors riding unicorns and alpacas.
Residents are encouraged to book their seats online at Ticketlink (www.ticketlink.com.au) or call 1300 855 835.
Councillor Cathy Zeiger said the Positive Ageing Fair was extremely popular and urged those wanting to attend to register early.
“We know that being active and staying active is important as we grow older,” Cr Zeiger said.
“The Positive Ageing Fair provides a social and fun setting for seniors to interact, gives them tips on how to remain active and healthy, as well as learn new crafts.
“This free event is always extremely popular and we are sure this year will be no different with fun games and activities planned, which are sure to keep everyone laughing and entertained.”
The fair will include something for everyone over 55 with hands-on workshops and experts delivering informative and engaging demonstrations.
