Fallen Police Colleague Curtis Cheng Remembered 10 Years On

The NSW Police will pause to remember fallen colleague Curtis Cheng on the 10th anniversary of his death.

Curtis Cheng was a senior accountant with the Finance and Business Services Unit and proud member of the NSW Police Force, who had worked with the organisation for more than 17 years.

On the afternoon of Friday 2 October 2015, Mr Cheng was leaving work when he was shot and killed outside Parramatta police headquarters.

Today, NSW Premier Chris Minns MP will join Mr Cheng's family and members of NSW Police for a memorial service at The Curtis Cheng Centre – NSW Police Force Headquarters.

In 2016, the Parramatta building was renamed in honour and memory of Mr Cheng who was posthumously bestowed a Commissioner's Commendation for Service.

Mr Minns said Curtis Cheng was a dedicated public servant whose life was taken in the most shocking and senseless way.

"Today we honour his memory, his service, and the deep loss felt by his family, colleagues, and community," he said.

Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley MP said today we remember Curtis Cheng.

"A devoted husband, father and respected member of the NSW Police family. We will never forget him," Minister Catley said.

"On this anniversary, our hearts are with Mr Cheng's loved ones and his colleagues at Parramatta who still feel this loss.

"We honour the professionalism and courage shown by officers and staff on that day and every day since."

Deputy Commissioner David Hudson APM said the policing family would pause to remember an admired and respected colleague 10 years after his tragic death.

"Mr Cheng was a cherished colleague and family man who will never be forgotten," Deputy Commissioner Hudson said.

"Mr Cheng's passing continues to weigh heavily on those who worked and loved him.

"The heartfelt thoughts of the NSW policing family continue to be with the Cheng family, particularly on the anniversary of his passing."

Mr Cheng is survived by his wife Selina, his son Alpha and daughter Zilvia.

In recognition of his service with the NSW Police Force, Mr Cheng received NSW Police Medallions recognising the milestones of 10 and 15 years service, the Commissioner's Long Service Award for 15 years service, as well as the Commissioner's Olympic and Sesquicentenary Citations.
