Families Empowered in Early Childhood Service Choices

Dept of Education, Skills and Employment

StartingBlocks.gov.au helps families to find and compare vacancies, costs, quality ratings and inclusions across all ECEC services.

Governments have now taken steps to offer more comprehensive information about service quality and safety, including:

  • the date the local regulator last visited a service
  • conditions placed on a provider or service by the regulator
  • a clearer link between a service and their provider.

Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP said:

"Giving more information to parents is an important step to rebuild their confidence in a system they need to have confidence in.

"This is about parents having the facts they need so they can make the best decisions for their children."

Minister for Early Childhood Education, Senator the Hon Dr Jess Walsh said:

"Parents have a right to know what's going on in their child's early learning centre.

"Greater transparency and accountability will also drive higher standards for our children.

"The Commonwealth is working shoulder to shoulder with the states and territories to implement this significant package of reforms."

These changes are part of a broader government agenda to strengthen quality and safety across the ECEC sector.
