Family appeals for public help over Dharruk stab murder, NSW

The family of a young father murdered in western Sydney earlier this year, are joining police in appealing for information to identify those responsible, NSW Police say.

Police know 38-year-old Erol Tokcan was inside his Dharruk home about 9.45pm on Friday 9 March 2018, when three people forced their way inside.

It’s believed Erol was stabbed once in the chest during a scuffle inside the house on Livingston Avenue, before the three ran away, last seen running from the premises towards Carlisle Avenue.

Erol was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where he died.

Detectives attached to Mount Druitt Police Area Command established Strike Force McGuine to investigate the incident.

Erol’s younger sister, Fatosh Tokcan, says her family has been shattered by his death.

"Erol was my older brother and a key member of our extended family. He is an adored uncle, and father of his 18-month-old daughter. My brother was known to the Mt Druitt community. He was very generous and we want justice for him"

"We cannot believe he has been taken from us in such a violent and senseless way. We are distressed by the circumstances of his death and appeal for anyone with information to call Mt Druitt detectives.

Mt Druitt Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector David Goddard, said despite extensive inquiries, there had been no arrests over Erol’s death at this time. Investigators have a number of lines of enquiries in relation to Mr Tokcan’s death.

"This was a violent attack, on a vulnerable man with a brain injury, within his own home. This attacked resulted in the death of this young father," Det Ch Insp Goddard said.

"Erol’s family has been devastated by his death, and while detectives have worked tirelessly to identify those responsible, we still require assistance from the Mt Druitt Community.

"As well as being the father of an 18-month-old daughter, Erol was a much-loved son and brother in his family, and his death has had an especially devastating impact on his elderly mother.

"Erol’s family is joining NSW Police today to appeal to the community for any information which may assist in leading investigators to identify those responsible.

"We firmly believe there are people in our local community who know what happened and who is responsible".

"We are asking for anyone with information to come forward"

"You can contact Mt Druitt Police or, if necessary, information can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
