Family First today expressed outrage that child psychiatrist Dr Jillian Spencer has been issued a termination notice from Queensland Health despite her courageous stand against harmful gender-affirming practices on vulnerable children.
Dr Spencer was suspended in 2023 after raising legitimate concerns about the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. She has continued to warn that these so-called "treatments" cause irreversible harm to children. England and other countries have already halted their use, yet in Queensland, a senior doctor is punished for speaking the truth.
Family First National Director Lyle Shelton said it was a disgrace that the Crisafulli Government, after almost a year in power, has failed to act.
"What is the point of electing a so-called conservative government if it can't even protect whistleblowers like Dr Spencer?" Mr Shelton said.
"Queensland Health is pressing ahead with its agenda, trying to silence Dr Spencer before the courts or the independent review have even ruled. The government has chosen to stand by while one of the bravest health practitioners in the nation is persecuted for exposing what is arguably the greatest medical scandal of our time."
Dr Spencer's whistleblower status and human rights complaints remain unresolved, and the independent review into puberty blockers chaired by Professor Ruth Vine is not due until November. Yet Queensland Health has pre-emptively moved to end her career.
"This is a miscarriage of justice and a betrayal of children," Mr Shelton said. "Family First stands with Dr Spencer and will continue to fight for the protection of children from harmful gender ideology."
Family First urges Queenslanders who want real leadership and moral courage to reject the weak resolve of the LNP and vote Family First.
