Tasmanian Government

The Tamar Island Wetlands Centre is again celebrating World Wetlands Day with a series of activities set to be held next week.

World Wetlands Day is on February 2, providing the opportunity to shine a light on the importance of our wetlands.

Minister for Parks Nick Duigan said there will be a range of free, family-friendly activities for Tasmanians.

"Each year the Parks and Wildlife Services team puts together some great activities and this year is no exception," Minister Duigan said.

"World Wetlands Day provides an enjoyable and interactive few days for families to come along to the Tamar Island Wetlands Centre and learn all about the importance of wetlands.

"The activities include guided walks, beginner birdwatching, a wetlands safari and other free and interactive events for the whole family.

"I encourage people to come and meet some of the dedicated PWS staff and volunteers."

The World Wetlands Day theme for 2026 is Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage which highlights the role traditional knowledge has in sustaining wetland ecosystems and its cultural significance.

Activities run on Sunday 1 and Monday 2 February from 10am to 4pm. A Children's story time will also be held from 10.30 to 11.30am on Friday 6 February.
