Fashion and Sustainably can be Fun: Bayside

Did you know that on average, every Australian buys 56 items of clothing every year and that more than 200 million kilograms of Australian clothing and textiles end up in landfill every year (Australian Fashion Council, 2023)?

Ideas to live more sustainability whilst still having fun with fashion:

  • Repair, mend and upcycle your old favourites in your wardrobe
  • Drop off unwanted clean clothing in reusable condition to Council's Community Recycling Drop Off Events (download the Bayside Waste App for more details)
  • Look in your wardrobe for any hidden gems to create new outfits
  • Only buy clothing that you intend to wear again and again
  • Buy second-hand clothes where possible
  • Rent or borrow outfits for special events rather than buying something you will only wear once or twice.

By thinking creatively about our existing wardrobe, buying mindfully, and wearing second-hand or upcycled fashion, we can reduce waste, help the environment and save money too!
