Fatal crash – Esk Highway in Fingal, TAS

At 1.50pm on Monday, 20 February 2017, Tasmania Police were informed of and accident involving a truck and motor cycle on the Esk Highway a short distance west of Fingal, Tasmania Police say.

The rider of the motor cycle was a 36 year old man holidaying with his family in Tasmania from Caboolture, Queensland.

The driver of the truck was a 49 year old man from St Marys.

The rider of the bike was flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter from the accident scene to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition, but unfortunately he died a short time after arriving at the Hospital.

Initial investigations show that the bike was on the incorrect side of the road at the time of the collision.  Speed is not considered a contributing cause of the accident.
