Fatal Crash in Roper Gulf Region Draws Police Response

Northern Territory Police are investigating after a fatal vehicle crash on the Roper Highway overnight.

Around 7pm, police received reports a single vehicle, carrying 5 people, had crashed on a remote stretch on the Roper Highway, approximately 85km from the Stuart Highway intersection.

Northern Territory Police attended the scene a short time later and located 3 deceased females and one deceased male. One male survivor suffered serious injuries and was conveyed to Katherine for treatment.

Formal identification of the deceased is underway.

Major Crash detectives, assisted by local police, are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Detectives are urging anyone familiar with the group involved who can assist the investigation, including anyone travelling on the Roper Highway with dash-cam footage, to make contact on 131 444 as you may have information that can assist investigations.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said "This is a significant loss of life.

"Detectives are expected to remain at the crash scene until late afternoon. The Roper Highway remains closed and there are no diversions in place. Motorists are advised not to travel on the Roper Highway today."
