Police are currently at the scene of a fatal crash that has claimed the life of a man in West Melbourne this afternoon, Victoria Police say.
Police have been told a sedan was travelling east along Dynon Road between Kensington Road and Lloyd Street about 2.40pm.
It is believed the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road before crashing into a tree.
The man, who is yet to be formally identified and sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are keen to speak to any witnesses.
They are also keen to speak to the driver of a truck driving along Dynon Road prior to the crash.
